Etherow Country Park Sailing Club
Pirates ahoy

Oh hecky thump, we thought we had rounded up the last lot, keel hauled them, confiscated their grog and told their mummies what naughty folks they were and not to allow any more skull and crossbone flags BUT the Pirates are headed back to Etherow.

The ancient crafts of navigation have been applied, the seaweed hanging in the porch checked and more computing power than the average dog-tag predicts they will arrive on Saturday 15 July

Last year Tom,  the young cabin boy, was despatched to snatch away the pirates plans  and he uncovered the daststardly plot to launch a pirate ship upon the lake and wreak havoc and plunder upon all matelots.

The pirates will be rounded up and soundly tickled with feathers (which they squirm at)  till they giggle for mercy and promise to mend their ways.

Once the pirates have been tamed, their ship will be on the water for more gentle pleasures - providing trips around the lake. There will be a bouncy castle, and diverse entertainments.

From 11 till 4 there will be stalls and displays by local groups and businesses.

It is all to raise money for good causes, including the Compstall Defibrillator Fund.

So come and enjoy this Charity Fun Day - get the youngsters to dress up as pirates for those trips on the water.

Sunday 25 June   50 CHALLENGE SAILING EVENT

This is the BIG ONE! We are hoping to get 50 members and friends of the club on the water all at the same time.

Note that the date and time has been changed so the event will follow on from the Sailing Course and we are asking all our new sailors to stay on and join in the fun.

There will be a sail- by with lots of hype and cheering from the spectators followed by a mass start for a short race round all of our buoys (not necessarily in numerical order).
We want lots of photos and hope to attract publicity from local press and radio. Put this one in your diary and get your friends, relatives, lovers, neighbours, work mates, and anyone else you may know down the club for what should be a memorable day.

Saturday 2 September   DOUBLE HANDER TEAM RACE

For both experts and novices followed by a Bar B Q and quiz. This was a fantastic event last time we ran it with about 30 sailors in two teams and an incredibly close finish. It  is also great preparation for the 24 hour race that takes place the following week.

See the action here

Now you can catch the action both on our own water and across the oceans of the world thanks to a new page on this site.

Our Videos page (find it under Our Club) features the latest action in top flight sailing events across the globe thanks to World On Water. Episodes change on Friday each week but you can wind back to 2014 using a button in the top left of the video area. You can also expand the video to full screen in HD with the button at the bottom right.

We did have videos on the old website and we will soon have some of that archive available but we need new material . Members are invited to submit their own footage - bearing in mind that it must have the right clearances (eg parental permission where youngsters are featured).

Thank you for visiting the website of the Etherow Country Park Sailing Club, the only sailing club in Stockport. Feel free to browse our site and see what we have to offer.

Etherow is a friendly club (when racing we experience good-natured rivalry!) and we welcome everyone: from those who may never have put their foot in a dinghy before, to Olympic team coach. Membership is inexpensive and we have some club boats that can be used, for a nominal charge, during the early stages. There are plenty of boats for sale within the club and elsewhere for very little money.
