Etherow Country Park Sailing Club
RYA Green Club of the Year

Etherow Country Park Sailing Club has clinched the RYA Green Club of the Year award 2024. The announcement was made at the annual Dinghy Show and was presented by Steve Bruce (right), Managing Director of ePropulsion to ECPSC Commodore Mike Hollingworth (centre) and Vice Commodore Dave Burley (left). The club has won an ePropulsion outboard for our safety boat.
The award was made because the club overcame vandalism setbacks in 2021 losing supplies of water and electricity but turning adversity into opportunity. We embraced eco-friendly measures like rainwater harvesting,  upgraded to LED lighting, recycled more waste, refurbished boats rather than scrapping them, and pursue ongoing environmental improvements and initiatives.

Looking forward to a great 2024

We're looking forward to a great 2024 at Etherow, with exciting plans for the future.

The club has achieved RYA Recognised Training Centre status, meaning members can now attend courses resulting in certificated qualifications for dinghy sailing. We will be announcing dates for courses soon, but we have already run courses at RYA Level 1 and 2 as well as Powerboat Level 2 to provide a bigger team of safety-boat operators.

We have a more environment-friendly approach to our activities as well, with measures such as rainwater capture for flushing the loos, replacement of lighting with LED units and the use of ultra efficient water heating for washing and showering.

This is probably the easiest place to launch a dinghy in the North West. One of very few clubs where you can step straight from solid ground into a boat, staying dry,

Etherow is a friendly club and we welcome everyone: from those who never have put their foot in a dinghy, to Olympic team coach.

Membership is affordable and we have some club boats that can be used, for a nominal charge, during the early stages. There are boats for sale within the club usually and elsewhere for very little money.
