Etherow Country Park Sailing Club - the only sailing club in Stockport

Sailing at Etherow

Etherow Country Park Sailing Club sails all year round. As a club, we cater for all different tastes of sailing, at any ability, competitive sailing or sailing just for fun. We run an annual taster session for individuals of any ability to learn to sail and absorb the atmosphere at the club.

For more information about the sessions, please watch out for announcements on our notice board or this website.

What Do We Sail?

The club welcomes all classes of dinghies under 16 ft.. However, we have adopted three main classes of dinghies for racing on the lake: Toppers , Lasers and Enterprises.

There are large fleets of these one and two man dinghies at the club, and new members are welcome to purchase a boat of these class and join our fleet.

When Do We Sail?

The main club sailing event is racing on Sundays, all year round; there is also racing on Thursday evenings during summer - this proves very popular with members coming for a sail after work, school or college.

Sailing is usually followed by a family friendly get together in the clubhouse.

Members of the public are very welcome to come down whilst members are sailing to enquire about joining, or to simply get a feel for the club.

People will be at the club from around 12 midday on Sundays, and 7pm on Thursdays during summer.

Racing At Etherow Country Park Sailing Club

As a club, Etherow has a strong racing spirit, with series of races running all year round, as well as prize races and open meetings scattered throughout the year. Presentation Night in December is always a fun event, reminiscing over the accomplishments of the last year.

Several of our members are also very active on the open meeting circuits in the UK, often attending large open meetings at other clubs. Many of our juniors also embrace racing at other clubs. Over the years, two world class sailors have originated from Etherow, Lesley Ingleson and Andy Potter.

Southport 24 Hour: Well done to our mixed ability team who still achieved a great 19th place out of 76 entrants.
Fancy sailing?

You do not need to be an accomplished sailor to join the club.

If you are really interested, you could always begin by crewing for an experienced helmsperson and learn as you go.

To get going you could click here to send a message to the Sailing Captain for a taster session out on the water.
