Thank you for visiting the website of the Etherow Country Park Sailing Club, the only sailing club in Stockport. Feel free to browse our site and see what we have to offer.
Etherow is a friendly club (when racing we experience good-natured rivalry!) and we welcome everyone: from those who may never have put their foot in a dinghy before, to Olympic team coach. Membership is inexpensive and we have some club boats that can be used, for a nominal charge, during the early stages. There are plenty of boats for sale within the club and elsewhere for very little money.
Winter Sailing
Our club sails all the year round (though we insist on wet or dry suits during the winter months. The only thing that stops us, as happened in the big freeze of 2010-11, is our lake being covered with thick ice.
The Siberian air brought in by Easterlies in early February once again resulted in hard water but attention is focused on the upcoming season with its accent on the Olympics. We will be holding some events tied in to the Games in conjunction with the RYA Sail for Gold campaign.
Sailing has been this country's most succesful sport in the medal tables over recent years and we shall be wishing our sailors the best of luck to add to their great skills.
Revamped Picture Page
We now have a much improved photographic section on this site and the way it has been designed means we have the ultimate capacity to provide hundreds it not thousands of images.
As we get under way with the new season, we will also be adding more videos to enable site visitors to enjoy the action on the water.
In addition, we have updated the events page with easier editing for those who have the job of updating it, and lots of pointers to what is happening in the coming months.
Race results will also be appearing on the site shortly.
