Club History
Bredbury and Romiley Sailing Club (now Etherow Country Park Sailing Club) was founded in 1967 by a group of sailing enthusiasts all living in the Compstall and Stockport area.The founding members of our club were: Frank Grisbrook, Harry Whitehead, J. Hurst, C. G. Milledge and W. Browning.
Once the club was set up by an agreement between the local district council and B.R.S.C (Bredbury and Romiley Sailing Club) and confirmed by the Secretary Of State, the sailing club started a journey to improve its facilities, a journey which continues to this day.
The original premises were the small wooden hut situated next to the boat yard.
This wooden hut still stands to this day - however the main club facilities have improved greatly since it was installed!
The modern clubhouse was erected in 1974, with an extension being added on in 1987 and a much larger extension with changing room facilities being added in in 2002 & 2003.
Today, the club has a fully wheelchair-disability-friendly, and comfortably-furnished clubhouse. There are male and female changing rooms, showers, brew-up area and bar.
These facilities have all been added to over time, thanks to the efforts of our members.
The community spirit at Etherow whilst conducting these improvements has been superb; and members are always on hand to assist with repairs or further improvements.
